INTRODUCING MATTHEW JAMES AYLETT
Matthew James Aylett is a unique and prolific songsmith who draws deeply from the roots of folk and blues. Citing heroes such as Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan as his lyrical compass, his music calls listeners away from the noise of the city and into the open, flatline skies of the fens through its factories, its solitude, and its softened reflections on life.
A songwriter of over 20 years, Aylett describes himself as someone with “truths to write,” a sentiment that runs through his work. His self-titled debut solo album, released in 2022 and produced by Gordon Raphael, journeys across emotional and sonic landscapes, capturing both frustration and moments of hard-won elation. It’s a record that invites listeners to fully immerse both heart and mind.
Building on that foundation, Aylett has continued to grow his reputation, sharing stages with acts such as Slim Chance (Ronnie Lane’s band) and Willy Tea Taylor along with other notable artists, further cementing his place as a rising voice with a distinctive presence. His travels have also shaped his sound—recording in Tennessee and Texas for his EP Past Goodbye, released in May 2025. While in Austin, he performed at the legendary Cactus Cafe, following in the footsteps of some of his greatest influences.
In 2026, Aylett continues to evolve as an artist, actively gigging and writing new material, pushing his craft forward while staying rooted in the honest, evocative storytelling that defines his music.
